Streaming problems: events are buffering or low-quality
If you’re having issues with your video quality when you’re watching DAZN, there are a few reasons this might be happening.
In this article, we’ll explain more about the possible reasons you’re having trouble watching DAZN. We’ll also explain the different internet download speeds we recommend, plus how you can find out the speed of your internet on your device at home. And we’ll share some tips you can try to fix the issue.
What's an internet download speed?
DAZN will serve the highest quality streaming experience possible based on the available internet download speed. When you watch DAZN, your device downloads data in the form of videos and images from the events you watch. The internet download speed is how long it takes to download that data.
Your device downloads data when you use other services as well – such as browsing the internet or listening to music. If you have a slow internet download speed, it takes longer for that data to come through.
Signs that your internet download speed is too slow
If your video is pixelated, the image is blurred, or you're experiencing regular interruptions, your internet speed might be too slow.
The recommended internet download speed to watch DAZN
All DAZN programmes and live streams are available in 1080p Full High Definition, which means that as long as you have an internet speed of around 16mbps, you should experience the highest quality of definition.
However, to watch DAZN on your TV and laptop in HD (High Definition), we recommend an internet download speed of 9mbps and to watch in SD (Standard Definition), we recommend an internet download speed of 3mbps.
How to find out your internet download speed
To check your internet speed, go to fast.com.
Note that the internet speed will only be accurate for the device you’re checking the speed on. For example, if you check your internet download speed on your mobile device, the internet download speed will only be relevant for your mobile. On your TV, it might be different.
Improving video quality issues
If your internet download speed meets the minimum speed, there may be another reason you’re having trouble watching DAZN.
Here are some things you can try at home to help improve the quality of your stream:
- Connect your device directly to your modem using an Ethernet cable
- If you can’t connect it directly, bring the modem closer to your device (if you can). For example, this might mean moving your laptop downstairs or sitting in the same room as your modem
- Remove any obstacles between your modem and your device. For example, if your modem is usually kept in a cupboard, take it out and put it in a more open space in your home
- Make sure you’re not anything on another device in your home
- Update your DAZN if you’re watching on TV, mobile or tablet to the latest available version.
- If you are experiencing video stuttering or juddering or having excessive motion blur, we recommend turning off the motion setting on your TV. Some examples of the motion setting are Tru Motion, MotionFlow and Auto Motion Plus.

Are there any other factors that affect video quality?
The quality of your internet connection also affects your streaming experience.
The two main types of internet connection are:
- Modern – such as a fibre optic connection
- Legacy – such as ADSL2 connections
Modern connections are generally stable. However, legacy connections can be less reliable. Legacy connections can fluctuate from slower to faster, which makes them unstable. If your connection is unstable, this might also sometimes cause video quality issues.
Improving your internet download speed or internet connection quality
If your internet speed is slower than 9mbps, you’ve tried the troubleshooting tips and you want a faster connection, you may need to check with your internet service provider.
FAQs
I don't get buffering issues with other streaming services. Why is it different on DAZN?
On other streaming services you’re generally watching videos, or content, that is ‘on-demand’ (ie not being broadcast live). Live-streaming sports events needs a faster internet download speed than something that‘s been pre-recorded and available on-demand.
The reason for this is that with live streaming, content needs to be physically transported – from the location it’s happening in – to the device you’re watching on. It’s sent from one location to another via fibre cables or satellite.
In order for events to be seen by viewers in real time, the content needs to be sent as quickly as possible. This means there are just a few seconds to make sure the content can travel in the most efficient way. It needs to be compressed into the smallest size and format it can be, and then sent to customers’ devices.
I tried fixing the problem but it didn’t work. What can I do?
If your internet speed is too slow to watch live and you missed the event, you can also watch events on catch-up. Just search the event or have a look on the homepage.
To watch live events on DAZN in high quality, you may need to contact your internet service provider to improve your internet speed.
How can I tell if it’s my TV or my internet?
First, you should check your internet speed. If it looks stable and is above DAZN’s recommended speed, it might be a problem with your TV. If that’s the case, try these steps:
- Restart your device
- If you are using a new Smart TV, switch it off and unplug from power for 10 seconds.
